The Lagos marina maintains the town’s maritime tradition. It was opened back in 1994 and the first of its kind in the Algarve. It has been awarded the Blue Flag, the FEE’s seal of quality.

A variety of excursions on boats and ships begin at Lagos Marina and the fishing port. They include popular grotto tours to Ponta da Piedade, dolphin and other marine animal watching, big game fishing and BBQ trips.

The fortress at the harbour exit of Lagos dates back to the 17th century. The entrance is protected by a drawbridge. Inside you can visit a chapel with tiles from the 18th century and rooms with exhibits from the era of Portuguese discoveries.

St.Sebastião Church, built in the 14th and 15th centuries, on the site of a former hermitage, was damaged by the earthquake in 1755. It has a plain façade with a renaissance doorway. The 16th century crucifix was, according to legend, present at the battle 'Alcácer-Quibir' in Marrocos.

Classified as a national monument in 1924, the first walls date back to the period of King Afonso (1291-1357), although nothing else remains from that time. The oldest remaining walls are from the 15th. and 16th. centuries which were built by King Manuel

St. António Church, classified as national monument, was rebuilt in1796 following the terrible earthquake in 1755. Inside, you can visit the beauty of the carved woodwork and tiles as well as eight wall paintings by Master José Joaquim Raquinho from Loulé.

Santa Maria Church, located in the “Praça do Infante”, was rebuilt in 1888 following a fire. The original building dates back to the 15th and 16th centuries.

The market hall is conveniently located near the centre on the Av. dos Descobrimentos, the 4-lane avenue along the waterside promenade. The building, which was built in 1924 was recently restored and nowadays attracts tourists as well as customers.
